Government of Venezuela reiterates at the UN that evaluation of human rights in the country cannot omit multiform war against the people

The permanent representative of Venezuela to the UN-Geneva, Héctor Constant Rosales, reaffirmed this Thursday the will of the Bolivarian Government to preserve and consolidate cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, while regretting that the oral presentation of the official “lacks, once again, the necessary balance, presenting unverified information that fuels the media campaign against my country.”

“Venezuela is concerned that the High Commissioner presents facts and circumstances that have not been duly verified with the Venezuelan authorities, despite the presence of her Office on the ground and the existing dialogue mechanisms with the Venezuelan State”, argued the Ambassador in the framework of the 46th ordinary session of the UN Human Rights Council.

High Commissioner Bachelet presented in Geneva the oral update on the situation of human rights in Venezuela, in accordance with resolution 45/20 of the Human Rights Council, which does not have the consent of Venezuela, as it was “promoted by a small group of countries that keep bulky files of serious human rights violations.”

In this regard, the Permanent Representative reiterated his firm rejection to the imposition of resolutions against sovereign countries in the Council, even more when they do not have the consent of the State concerned.

Ambassador Constant Rosales stated that Venezuela takes note of the concerns expressed by the High Commissioner, recalling in this regard the content of the preliminary report of the Special Rapporteur on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights, Alena Douhan, who recently visited the South American nation.

He stressed that in an evaluation of the human rights situation in Venezuela, the existence of a multiform aggression by the United States Government and its closest allies, with a terrible impact on the daily life of the Venezuelan population, cannot be ignored or omitted.

“This Council, and in particular, the High Commissioner, must be key actors in the firm condemnation and end of all sanctions that undermine fundamental human rights and the right to development of the peoples. We are facing the constitution of atrocious crimes against humanity that cannot continue to be silenced by the transnational media power”, the Venezuelan Ambassador insisted.
