On a historic day from Saint Petersburg-Russia, the Venezuelan delegation, headed by the ministers Wilmar Castro Soteldo, Gabriela Jiménez and Alí Padrón, signed a contract this Friday with the limited liability company Geropharm to acquire the Russian vaccine EpiVacCorona against the coronavirus (COVID-19) thus, advance the process of immunization of the Venezuelan people.
The EpiVacCorona is the second anticovid vaccine developed by Russian scientists and was created by the Véktor Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology, with the company Geropharm as an industrial partner in production.
In this sense, the Venezuelan ambassador in Moscow, Carlos Faría, has referred that the Russian pharmaceutical Geropharm is a great ally and friend of Venezuela.
“In each of these areas there were approaches, meetings with important sectors, (…) so the agenda has been very busy during these three days of work and we hope that when our ministers arrive with their team, they can get to work around in all the issues and agreements that were made”, said the diplomat.
In addition, according to a statement from the Russian pharmaceutical company, Venezuela became the first foreign country to start using the EpiVacCorona in the mass vaccination campaign of its population.
Since the beginning of last May, clinical trials have been carried out in Venezuela with the immunizing EpiVacCorona,
It is 94 percent effective in older adults and provides immunity for at least one year, according to the director of Véktor, Alexandr Semionov.
The Bolivarian Government delegation is in Russia within the framework of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
