Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza bids farewell to UNHCR Representative in Venezuela

In an official meeting held at Casa Amarilla “Antonio José de Sucre,” headquarters of Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry in Caracas, to reaffirm the commitment to continuing the coordinated cooperation with the United Nations System, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza bade farewell on Friday to the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Matthew Crentsil, who will take on new duties at the United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland.

In the company of the Foreign Vice-minister for Multilateral Affairs, Daniela Rodríguez, Arreaza reaffirmed at the meeting the Bolivarian Government’s will to strengthen the joint work with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, seeking to overcome any situation or incident that may have undermined the transparency and harmony in their relations.

The Venezuelan foreign minister said that cooperation with the UNHCR Office in Venezuela has been good, and thanked Crentsil for his work and efforts made in the country within the framework of the programs developed by the UNHCR as part of the Humanitarian Response Plan agreed with the UN.

In late November last year, Foreign Minister Arreaza held a meeting with Crentsil and other UN representatives to address Venezuelan migration and the protection of migrants, as alleged resources have been allocated to Governments of receiving countries, which have failed to provide a better care for Venezuelan nationals who have migrated due to the economic pressure of the imperial blockade.
