“Venezuela, the day we were all waiting for has arrived”, stressed the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, regarding the Dr. José Gregorio Hernández’s ascension to the altars, whose beatification ceremony was held this Friday at the San Juan Bautista de La Salle Church, located in Caracas.
“Let us receive with great faith and hope the blessings of the saint of the people”, he emphasized in a message broadcast through his account on the social network Twitter, @NicolasMaduro.
He stressed that this day “with joy we ratify our devotion to one of the greatest Venezuelans we have ever had: Dr. José Gregorio Hernández”, whose journey to ascend to the altars began in 1949.
The beatification of the Doctor of the Poor was announced on June 19, 2020, after Pope Francis authorized the promulgation of the decree regarding the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
The Vatican thus recognized the miracle worked on Yaxury Solórzano, a native of Apure state, who was hit by a bullet in 2017. The medical prognosis was not optimistic, given that if she survived the surgery she would face motor and linguistic consequences.
However, Yaxury Solórzano managed to save herself and react positively to the postoperative examinations, leaving the hospital with her faculties intact.
Starting this Friday, April 30, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández will accompany Blessed María de San José, Candelaria de San José and Carmen Rendiles to the Venezuelan altars.
