Venezuela, China evaluate creation of Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group

The President of Venezuela’s National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, held on Monday a conversation via video conference with the President of China’s Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Liu Zhanshu, and reaffirmed the deep sense of gratitude to Xi Jinping’s government for its solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and Washington’s  brutal siege.

At the virtual meeting, in the company of members of parliament from both countries, they discussed the creation of a Venezuela-China Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group to strengthen and foster a multipolar world.

Likewise, the authorities talked about the forthcoming commemoration of the 100th anniversary of China’s Communist Party, founded on July 1, 1921, which coincides this year with the Bicentenary of the Battle of Carabobo, which took place on June 24, 1821 and sealed the independence of Venezuela.

The high-ranking parliamentary officials agreed to reject unilateral coercive measures, strengthen strategic bilateral relations, support territorial issues and defend the sovereignty of their countries.

Rodríguez highlighted the fraternal ties between Venezuela, China and their governments as the foundation to jointly face adversities and as an important promise to walk together towards future through work and cooperation.

Zhanshu expressed they will always keep in mind, “as the best support we can have in this crucial moment,” the passing of a National Assembly resolution to strongly support the People’s Republic of China, its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The geographical distance, no matter how far it is, will never prevent the affinity between our peoples,” he stressed.

This virtual meeting is part of a new parliamentary agenda promoted by the revolutionary forces of the National Assembly and aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fight against COVID-19 and strategic alliances for a system of international multipolar relations.
