First Meeting of Runasur Technical Commission Set Up in Cochabamba

On Saturday, April 24, in Cochabamba, Bolivia, a technical commission held its first meeting to create Runasur, a South American people’s integration mechanism promoted by Bolivian leader Evo Morales and coordinated by indigenous communities and popular organizations from different nations.

The constitutive meeting was attended by technical commissions from Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia and Venezuela which, since December 2020, have participated in previous virtual meetings to discuss the organization’s guidelines, structure, regulations, financing, headquarters, and full, associated membership.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela was represented by the Foreign Vice-minister for International Communication, Lídice Altuve, and member organizations from the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among the Peoples.

“We are embracing this dream that called us to build and promote a Plurinational America, a new alternative society. The strength of social movements and organizations will ensure the success of our projects and definitive independence,” said the Venezuelan vice-minister.

Also, Bolivia’s former President and leader Evo Morales recalled that as indigenous people fought against the Spanish colonization, now a solid unity must be forged for Latin America’s development.

“Our generation now has another challenge, the Plurinational America to ensure the liberation of future generations,” stressed Morales.

The central premises of Runasur aim to organize indigenous movements, stop the right wind advance, ensure anti-imperialist governments and build a Plurinational America.
