Foreign Minister Arreaza arrives in Bolivia to participate in the “Reencounter with the Pachamama”

The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, arrived on Wednesday night in the Plurinational State of Bolivia where he will participate in the Reencounter with the Pachamama, an activity framed in the celebrations of the International Day of Mother Earth this 22 of April.

The international event will bring together high-level intellectuals, experts and politicians from different organizations and continents, to discuss the importance of the rights of nature, expose the crime of ecocide to be recognized in the International Criminal Court (ICC) and debate the convocation of an Earth Assembly at the UN.

Among the participants, the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres; the Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Alicia Bárcena; the regional director of the United Nations Development Program (Undp), Luis Felipe López and the Vice-president of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca were present.

“In Bolivia we live in contact with Mother Earth, that is why we ask at the international level for the reflection of living beings (…) we have to begin to value nature”, emphasized the Executive Director of the Plurinational Authority of Mother Earth, dependent on the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Andean country, Angélica Ponce, on the commemorative activity.

In addition, two draft bills will be presented, one on the Defense of Mother Earth and the other against Ecocide and Protection of Mother Earth; as well as an Action Plan to avoid the sixth extinction on the planet.
