Venezuela and Turkey estimate to establish agreements that strengthen the national fishing sector

The People’s Power Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Juan Luis Laya, received a delegation from the sister Republic of Turkey, at the facilities of the Pescalba Socialist Company, in Sucre state, with the aim of evaluating possible agreements between Venezuela and the Eurasian country, in fisheries and aquaculture matters.

“We are pleased with the visit of the representatives of our sister Turkey who have come to observe the potentialities
in fishing matters that exist in Venezuela, and evaluate the conditions to strengthen the sector”, said Laya.

Likewise, the Head of Fisheries and Aquaculture pointed out that Pescalba has an ice maker machine capable of producing more than 1,400 cubes; as well as a refrigeration system with a storage capacity of more than 1,400 tons of species such as tuna, horse mackerel, among others.

“Together with the Turkish brothers and their experience in fisheries and aquaculture, we will strengthen artisanal fishing by modernizing boats. In the same way, the arrival of an important fleet of boats that increase industrial fishing is planned, and this way multiply production and distribution,” he assured.

The Turkish diplomatic commission toured the Fish Market of Cumaná, held a meeting with the governor of Sucre, Edwin Rojas; and visited the El Dique sector with the council of fishermen from this port. The tour of the eastern entity ended with the boarding to various fish processing plants, where they exalted the high Venezuelan quality standards.

It should be noted that in 2020 and despite the constant neoliberal siege, in addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, Venezuela produced more than 180 thousand tons of fish. However, it is estimated that by 2021 that figure will be exceeded and the needs of protein of Venezuelans can be covered.

The foreign delegation was made up of the Fisheries expert and General Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests of Turkey, Ilhan Uze; and by the 3rd secretary of the Turkish Embassy in Venezuela, Orkun Kolsal.
