Venezuela calls for strengthening global vision to face crises at ECLAC’s Committee on South-South Cooperation Meeting

On Thursday, Venezuela’s Foreign Vice-minister for Multilateral Affairs Daniela Rodríguez participated in the ECLAC’s Tenth Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Committee on South-South Cooperation, where she stressed that practices and experiences should be fostered to strengthen a global vision and a joint approach to the common crises faced by developing countries.

Likewise, Rodríguez highlighted that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela “reaffirms its adherence to multilateralism, solidarity and complementarity in the world response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“We firmly believe that South-South cooperation constitutes an important tool to address this crisis and prevent worse ones,” she stated.

The Venezuelan vice-minister recalled that Venezuela has always attached importance to the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, the promotion of sustainable development and respect for human rights.

In this regard, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of boosting regional integration mechanisms such as the CELAC and ALBA-TCP.

“To Venezuela, regional and subregional institutions give further voice to developing countries,” she said.

The Venezuelan diplomat also condemned the illegal imposition of unilateral coercive measures as they undermine national and regional efforts to address the pandemic, and deprive thousands of people of access to medicines and treatments, including vaccines.
