Venezuela exposes inclusive actions and measures for people in the condition of irregular migrants

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterated on Wednesday its commitment to respect human rights and the protection of migrants, regardless of their migratory status, especially in the midst of the global health emergency generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, against which, many people with this condition do not have access to adequate medical care.

During her participation in the Discussion of approaches to prevent irregular migration, within the framework of the XIII Summit of the World Forum on Migration and Development, which will take place until January 26, the general director of Consular Relations of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations, Eulalia Tabares, highlighted that Venezuela “has undertaken a series of actions to guarantee the well-being of our people (…) and there is no discrimination in the constitutional mandate in the treatment of nationals and foreigners.”

Likewise, the director Tabares highlighted the delivery of “around 2,500,000 travel documents, which allows our nationals to stay abroad”; while Venezuelans who have been victims of human trafficking and irregular smuggling of migrants have been treated and in some cases have been repatriated.

In this regard, the Venezuelan representative asked the host nations for greater collaboration in the implementation of these measures being carried out by the Venezuelan State, reiterating its willingness to dialogue and cooperate bilaterally with the countries of the region “to manage this situation above of political differences.”

For his part, the Venezuelan ambassador to the UN and other international organizations based in Geneva, Héctor Constant Rosales, pointed out that in the face of the migratory phenomenon he called on States and international organizations to consolidate efforts and achieve measures that are protective of the human rights.

“We must avoid as far as possible and with increasing commitment, all racist, xenophobic, discriminatory measures that may exist in the world against migration, and recognize, on the contrary, the efforts of migrants and their contribution with the development of many of our States”, he emphasized.
