The Head of State and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, approved by Presidential Decree the creation of the territory of the Venezuelan Atlantic facade.
“A new maritime territory of the Republic is established, as part of the battery of legal, constitutional, political, diplomatic and State actions for us to defend our sacred rights of 200 years of the Republic”, explained the President.
Among the main provisions of this Decree are:
- The creation of a strategic zone of national development called: Territory for the Development of the Atlantic Facade, in order to provide adequate protection and safeguard the jurisdiction of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in continental spaces, inland, bordering, historical and vital, underwater, insular, lake, river, territorial sea, those included within the straight base lines that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has adopted or adopts, the soil and subsoil of these, the continental, insular and maritime air space, the resources or other elements of interest found or discovered in them, contiguous maritime zone, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone, including aerospace, underlying outer space or any other dimension that affects the comprehensive security of the territory and the nation.
- The strategic zone of national development established by means of this Decree will be directed and administered by the sole authority of the territory for the development of the Venezuelan Atlantic coast.
- The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will designate the sole authority of the territory for the development of the Venezuelan Atlantic coast.
- Among the attributions of the sole authority are: the protection, management and development of the territory of the Venezuelan Atlantic coast, among others.
President Maduro instructed the Executive Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, to offer an extensive explanation to the country of the constitutional and legal scope of the creation of this special territory, as well as to fully comply, together with the Bolivarian National Armed Forces ( FANB), with this Decree.
The announcement was made by the Venezuelan President during a meeting of the National Defense Council, held this Thursday at the Miraflores Palace.
