Executive Vice-president: Venezuela is the second most equal country in the continent

The Executive Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, said that Venezuela has a lot to say about equality. “When Commander Hugo Chávez initiated the Bolivarian Revolution, Venezuela had high inequality rates, 0.49 of the Gini coefficient. Today we have an index of 0.37 and it places us in the second place of the most egalitarian countries of our continent”, Rodríguez said during the presentation of the 2020 National Budget, before the National Constituent Assembly (ANC). In that sense, she criticized that governments of countries such as Chile, Brazil and Colombia that, in her opinion, have high rates of inequality, are promoters of a war in Venezuela. “Colombia is the second most unequal country on the planet and the main cocaine producer in the world. Colombia is a champion in inequality”, said the Executive Vice-president. She also indicated that Brazil is the fourth country in the world in inequality, «and since the arrival of Bolsonaro, military spending has tripled, occupying one of the nations with the highest defense spending». “Chile represents the number of most indebted households in the world. Today we can say: Venezuela, the egalitarian one, and that is what the Bolivarian Project seeks for the world. That is our idea: equality for all the peoples of the world”, Rodríguez said. “Those who today intend to blame us for what happens in Chile, in Colombia, in Ecuador, in Haiti, in Bolivia after the coup d’etat, have to look for the origin of their social ills, for the explanation of why their people rise up with the anti-neoliberal flags”, she concluded.
