Venezuela detects 56 new cases of COVID-19 and infections rise to 1,177
Venezuela totals 1,177 COVID-19 infections since March 13, after 56 new cases were detected this Monday.
The balance was offered by the Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, who detailed that 42 cases are imported (32 from Colombia and 10 from Brazil), 10 from community transmission (two from Sucre and eight from Zulia) and four by contact with international travelers.
From the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, he pointed out that the cases registered in the state of Zulia correspond to the focus of contagion of the «Las Pulgas» market, in Maracaibo, due to the contempt of the measures of social distancing and compulsory use of the mask in public spaces.
«Maracaibo can become a more dangerous focus than Nueva Esparta and Miranda», he stressed, while urging the inhabitants of neighboring parishes to «comply much more strictly with confinement and radical quarantine regulations».
The infections detected this Monday come from the parishes of Santa Lucía, Chiquinquirá, Cacique Mara and Raúl Leoni of the Maracaibo municipality.
Representing the Presidential Commission for Follow-up, Control and Prevention of COVID-19, it announced the deployment of a personalized screening day in the parishes of Zulia state, as well as the application of the respective diagnostic tests to determine possible infections.
Rodríguez, who highlighted that the recovery rate remains at 302, explained that 865 are active, of which 476 are in sentinel hospitals, 372 in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI) and 17 in private clinics.
He emphasized that when totaling 10 deceased people, Venezuela registers the lowest case fatality rate in America with 0.4% per million inhabitants.
In relation to the application of diagnostic tests, he indicated that 832 thousand 526 have been performed, which represents 27 thousand 751 tests per million inhabitants.
