Venezuela offers its firm support to the WHO in the face of irresponsible accusations by president Donald Trump
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela offers its strong support to the World Health Organization and its Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, given the severe and irresponsible accusations made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
President Trump’s irresponsible statements and actions, as well as the campaign being developed against the work of Dr. Tedros Adhanom, in addition to being tainted by racism, we do not doubt that they are a further attempt to evade his responsibility as Head of State for having minimized the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on his country, which is now suffering the catastrophic consequences of his affront. Today, the United States is the country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases and a regrettably high number of deaths.
We recognize the work of the WHO and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who, from the beginning, alerted the world and world leaders to take the most rigorous measures to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Measures that President Nicolás Maduro adopted immediately, putting all the strength of the Bolivarian Government to implement the necessary measures, which has mainly been achieved, thanks to the conscience assumed by the Venezuelan people and the sustained support of agencies such as the WHO.
Furthermore, we share the vision that health is a social right, of universal and equitable access, which can be neither privatized nor commercialized. It is this vision that will allow us to successfully overcome any adverse health situation, for the benefit of the life and health of our peoples.
