16th Meeting of Counselors for the Protection of Children and Adolescents held

Venezuela’s National Association of Counselors (Asonacop) held on Thursday the 16th Meeting of Counselors for the Protection of Children and Adolescents to discuss the management of COVID-19 cases.

In the meeting, held via video conference, President of Asonacop Lily Torres stressed the work of this organization on technical assistance and the strengthening of the Councils for Protection in 16 states.

Likewise, Torres drew attention to the consequences of unplanned migration since it puts children and adolescents at risk of vulnerability, and urged the members of the Protection System “to learn about the dangers to which children are exposed when they are subjected to irregular migration.”

The president of Asonacop also said that “we cannot lose sight of our comprehensive protection doctrine. This means guaranteeing children and adolescents a safe path.”

The meeting included lectures such as “The System of Protection for Children and Adolescents in the face of COVID-19,” offered by Michel Díaz Mendoza, director for the Protection of the Family and Women of the Public Ministry; “Psychological Impact of COVID-19,” delivered by Lisa Briceño, psychologist of Asonacop; “COVID-19 Preventive Measures,” “Basic Aspects of Managing Children Protection Cases,” and “Response to COVID-19,” by  Dr. Jose Vicente Franco Soto, Tachira state’s National Official of Health Programs; Mairana Zavala, manager of Children Protection of the Rescue International Committee; and internationalist Eudys Almeida, from the Direction of Foreign Consular Services.

Noteworthily, the meeting enabled participants to exchange information, which will surely contribute to the development of new strategies to further guarantee the rights of children and adolescents amid the pandemic.
