Venezuela starts public consultation on Convention on the Rights of the Child

Under the theme #QueremosEscucharte (#WeWantToHearYou), Venezuela started the public consultation on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified in 1990 by the South American country.

The public consultation is promoted by the National Council for Human Rights and is aimed to receiving opinions and recommendations on the policies and actions taken by the Venezuelan State regarding the human rights of children and adolescents.

During the launch of the consultation, Larry Devoe, executive secretary of the National Council for Human Rights, explained that “the State’s institutions have adopted different measures to achieve the goals of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and today, with the participation of the people, especially children and adolescents, we want to check the progress, achievements and challenges we have had.”

The Venezuelan children, adolescents and organizations defending the human rights of children and adolescents, popular movements, state-run institutions and society will have the opportunity of participating via the National Council for Human Rights’ web page: www.consejoderechoshumanos.gob.ve.

Likewise, those interested in participating can send their contributions to the e-mail consultavenezuelanna@gmail.com, or take part in virtual meetings and in-person consultation meetings that will be held in different regions of the country by following biosecurity protocols.

The contributions and proposals will be incorporated into the sixth and seventh reports that Venezuela will submit to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

The public consultation will be held in November, and the meetings will address the following issues: legislation, right to proper treatment, right to education, health, food, and recreation, among others.

Finally, the Executive Secretary of the National Council for Human Rights called on all sectors of the Venezuelan socially to participate in this consultation by harnessing the potential of technological tools and the protagonist and participatory democracy experienced in the country thanks to the 1999 Bolivarian Constitution.
