Venezuela, Cuba agree agenda to boost binational economy

President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, proposed his counterpart from the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, to hold a binational meeting to boost their countries’ economies.

“I proposed we hold a working meeting headed by you and me in the next days (…) and call on our economic teams to integrate all the motors of real economy.”

The proposal was made by the Venezuelan president during a video conference with President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Cuba-Venezuela Cooperation Agreement.

Likewise, Maduro explained the importance of “relaunching the Cuba-Venezuela relations within the framework of the Bolivarian Alliance of the People of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) to think about economic, scientific and technological development.”

The strategic areas to develop include the agri-food industry, oil, energy, joint trade, goods and services.

“To think about working, join efforts with patience and resistance, to sow today what we are going to harvest tomorrow and build a deep structure of economic development and shared productive forces (…) Glory to the past, glory to our achievements, but we need to think ahead and we have to give, commit and keep our word.”

Finally, President Maduro thanked the Cuban people for all their solidarity throughout these years, when the fight for full independence have brought the two countries together in the face of the constant siege by the U.S. empire.

“If there’s someone from whom we have to learn about sacrifices, fraternity and solidarity, it is Cuba,” said President Maduro.
