Venezuelan Government presents report “The Truth of Venezuela against Infamy” to apostolic nuncio

On Monday, Venezuelan’s Attorney General, Tareck William Saab, Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz, and Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, presented to the apostolic nuncio Aldo Giordano in his capacity as dean of the diplomatic corps] the report “The Truth of Venezuela against Infamy. Report and Testimonies of a Country under Siege,” which systematizes the real situation of human rights in the country amid the multifaceted aggression faced by Venezuela.

The document, written by the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ombudsman’s Office and the National Council for Human Rights, debunks with official data the “report” recently presented by alleged “experts” of the so-called “Fact-finding Mission,” described by Foreign Minister Arreaza as “the judicial variant of Operation Gideon,” which was foiled by the Venezuelan Government in May and aimed at assassinating President Nicolás Maduro and other officials.

In a statement to the media, the Venezuelan foreign minister explained that while “the Fact-finding Mission” was financed with resources from the UN Human Rights Council, it is not a UN mission.

Likewise, Arreaza said the “report” of this commission, promoted by the so-called Lima Group, has not been approved or discussed within the United Nations, and it has been used as a political weapon against the Venezuelan people, the Government and the State.

“From a methodological point of view, it is absolutely irregular and fraudulent (…) It is like a mercenary analog operation. The report has the same goal of Operation Gideon,” stressed Arreaza.

Venezuela’s Ombudsman Alfredo Ruiz said “human rights cannot be used as an excuse to assassinate, to call for a military intervention, nor to continue attacking the Venezuelan people by blocking their essential needs.”

“Human rights cannot be seen in a partial manner. Rights belong to everybody,” said Ruiz, who pointed out that since 1999, “all Venezuelans have the right to defend and guarantee human rights, to guarantee life and the integrity of everybody.”

Furthermore, Attorney General Saab recalled that “the Lima Group used a parallel resolution [42/25] by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to hamper the real work assigned by the United Nations.”

Also, Saab pointed that the biased “report” collected 80% of its information through social media and the Internet, and that “they never carried out a technical investigation, or requested information from the Supreme Court of Justice, the Ombudsman’s Office and the Public Ministry.”

Attorney General Saab questioned this sudden parallel commission since OHCHR staff has been working for over a year with the Venezuelan justice system to correct the human rights situation and help solve human rights issues.

In his statement, Venezuela’s attorney general denounced that the U.S. unilateral coercive measures are not mentioned in any report, and that the data presented are used to attack Venezuela. Therefore, he added that the truth of Venezuela will be conveyed to the world so that everybody knows the reality.

“We will debunk all those lies with hard facts,” he affirmed.

Noteworthily, the report “The Truth of Venezuela against Infamy” will show to the rest of the diplomatic corps to the country official data, judicial sources, processes, sentences and resolutions that are verifiable according to social, scientific investigation procedures ruling the work of the UN human rights observatories.
