COVID-19 cases rise to 2,879 in Venezuela

Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez informed Friday, June 12, that Venezuela’s health authorities detected 65 new COVID-19 cases for a total of 2,879 cases in the country.

At a briefing, Rodríguez explained that out of these new cases, 6 are due to community transmissions located in the Capital District (2), and the states of Trujillo (2) and Miranda (2).

The Venezuelan vice-president also reported additional 31 imported cases from Colombia (23), Brazil (1), Ecuador (6) and Peru (1), and 28 cases due to international contact in a hotspot of a Pemon community due to entries through illegal border-crossing points.

Rodriguez added that out of the 2,879 cases in Venezuela, 80% are imported. These cases have been detected thanks to the cordon sanitaire implemented by the Venezuelan government in the country’s bordering zones.

Likewise, she urged the population to comply with the measures adopted in the COVID-19 National Protocol to guarantee the health of the population and keep the coronavirus curve flattened.

The Bolivarian Government has improved its capacity to assess, trace and isolate patients in order to reduce the propagation of coronavirus during the pandemic.
