Venezuela rejects Colombia’s questioning of COVID-19 handling

In response to Colombian Foreign Minister Claudia Blum’s and Migration Director Francisco Espinoza’s questioning of the COVID-19 handling in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza highlighted the irresponsibility of the Colombian government to address the pandemic.

“Colombia is the only responsible one for their poor handling of the pandemic, their clear incompetence to do tests and their huge underreporting of cases. Venezuela detects dozens of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis, all of them coming from Colombia,” he posted on his Twitter account @jaarreaza.

The Colombian authorities made accusations during a debate on political control in Congress, where they showed alleged figures of Venezuelans returning home due to their vulnerable condition as they were neglected by the Colombian government amid the pandemic.

Contrary to these accusations, last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized the excellent work of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on handling and containing COVID-19.

Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism Jorge Rodríguez recently reported that 48.017 Venezuelans have returned home through the border from countries featuring COVID-19 exponential growth. Due to this situation, the Bolivarian Government has strengthened sanitary measures and the cordon sanitaire on Venezuela’s border.
