Foreign Minister Arreaza responds to statements by his Brazilian counterpart Ernesto Araújo

This Monday, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, from his official Twitter account @jaarreaza, forcefully responded to the recent statements by the Brazilian Foreign Minister, Ernesto Araújo, regarding the atypical Venezuelan migration.

The Brazilian diplomat stated during an interview that

“Venezuelans do not flee from a hurricane, a flood or a foreign invasion. They flee from the worst totalitarian regime that Latin America has ever known. Many consider it a true silent genocide”,

statements that are part of the smear and attack plans against the Bolivarian Government.

Given this, Foreign Minister Arreaza expressed: “Mr. Ernesto Araújo, the cruel and scandalous genocide is committed by Jair Bolsonaro, when he abandoned and disoriented his people in the midst of a terrible pandemic. Brazil suffers from the disease of fascist obscurantism and the only cure is for the people to return to power”

Venezuelans who have moved under false promises to Brazilian towns such as Manaus and Boa Vista, have been subjected to xenophobic expressions and thousands of them have returned to Venezuela through the Plan Vuelta a la Patria created by President Nicolás Maduro.

Currently, Brazil is one of the countries in Latin America with the highest number of deaths and infections due to COVID-19, which has caused a strong economic contraction in the nation, while political tension worsens more and more as it cannot lead to carry out strategies that reduce the pandemic in the population.

Given the constant health collapses and numerous consequences that COVID-19 has generated worldwide, Foreign Minister Arreaza also urged the relevance for countries to take advantage of their participation in donor conferences to request resources and thus avoid more infections and deaths.

“Given the evident collapse of their health systems and the painful and notorious aftermath of the pandemic, several countries should take advantage of their participation in donor conferences to urgently request resources to avoid more infections and deaths from COVID-19”, he highlighted.
