Venezuela to celebrate 15th Africa Week starting May 25

On the occasion of the Africa Day on May 25, the 15th Africa Week will be celebrated in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela starting Monday. The celebration will be adapted to the current circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This memorable week will be celebrated on social networks and media, including the broadcast of five movies on the Bolivarian System of Communication and Information that will recall the historical struggles of the African people to gain freedom and independence. During the 15th Africa Week in Venezuela, a homage will be paid to the leaders who started building the foundations enabling the unity of their people 60 years ago. In this context, where imperialist aggressions have increased against Venezuela, the ties and alliances with African governments, as well as social, political movements and unions, have allowed the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to boost international cooperation and solidarity. Former President Hugo Chávez and African independence leaders knew that the unity of the people of the South was strategic in the fight against neocolonialism and neoliberalism; therefore, starting 2005, they have boosted further relations between Africa’s and Venezuela’s governments and people, being the Africa Week in Venezuela an expression of such efforts.
