In Venezuela, unity and solidarity are key as premises set forth by WHO

In the fight against novel coronavirus, one of Venezuela’s key elements is national unity, while in the international scenario, Bolivar’s homeland has raised the flag of solidarity, one of the premises set forth by Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, according to Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez during a briefing at the Miraflores Presidential Palace. Rodríguez endorsed that solidarity must prevail in the international scenario in order to fight a global battle.
“It’s useless that we move forward in Venezuela is we have countries in our hemisphere that do not care for measures.”
She referred to neighboring countries that “do not duly attend to cases,” and mentioned that they cause the growth of “exponential curves that could threaten the sanitary and epidemiological policies designed in Venezuela to fight COVID-19.” Rodríguez recalled that Brazil and Colombia lead in Latin America as the countries with more coronavirus cases. In Brazil, “the president decided to challenge this virus” and told “the Brazilian people to go out to the street.” Today, Brazil ranks ninth in the world and it leads in Latin America as the country with the highest number of cases with 78,162 COVID-19 patients. In Colombia, “where erratic policies have led to the impact of COVID-19, 5,949 cases have been registered” and “it ranks number 47 in the world.” The Venezuelan vice-president stressed the need and importance of Venezuelan sticking to strict protocols on the border.
“These protocols will be kept as our brothers and sisters fortunately decide to return to Venezuela” after witnessing “what the health system in Colombia is like” in comparison to other countries in the region.
