Vietnam celebrates Grandmother Kueka’s return to Venezuela

Under flexible distancing measures implemented by the government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Venezuelan Embassy in Hanoi joined the celebration of the Pemón people by receiving, after 22 years of its extraction, Grandmother Kueka. With a series of videos presented at the headquarters of the Diplomatic Mission, the efforts made by the Bolivarian Government, today materialized with the repatriation of Grandmother Kueka and her reinstatement in Santa Cruz de Mapaurí, indigenous population of the Gran Sabana municipality in Bolívar state, southern Venezuela were shown. At the headquarters of the Venezuelan Mission in Hanoi, Ambassador Tatiana Pugh Moreno indicated to the attendees that with joy, love and enthusiasm, the struggle of the Pemón indigenous community is concretized with the arrival of Grandmother Kueka thanks to the perseverance and determination, hand in hand the Bolivarian Government and President Nicolás Maduro. To enter into context, the Head of Mission recalled that Grandmother Kueka is a deity for the Pemon brothers, which was taken from Venezuelan territory in 1998 by the German plastic artist, Wolfang Von Schwarzenfeld, in contravention of Venezuelan legislation and the beliefs of the Pemón population, which indicates that its removal produced a serious natural imbalance for the region. The repatriation of Grandmother Kueka marks a milestone in the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural goods in the world, which could only be possible within a revolutionary government, which managed to make the indigenous peoples visible, and accompany their persevering struggle and strength to recover their heritage.
