Venezuela registers seven new Coronavirus cases

Venezuela registered on Thursday, April 17, seven new coronavirus cases for a total of 204 patients, informed President Nicolás Maduro during an event commemorating the 17º anniversary of the Barrio Adentro healthcare program. These new cases include four Cuban health aides in Guarenas, Miranda state, who were infected after having contact with a 36-year-old Cuban nurse who was recently diagnosed. Likewise, a 14-year-old girl in Artigas, Capital District, contracted the virus from his father, who was infected in the security company he works for. The Venezuelan president also reported a 17-year-old girl from El Tocuyo, Lara state, who tested positive. Venezuelan health authorities are yet to determine how she contracted the virus. Furthermore, a 40-year-old woman tested positive for COVID-19 in Nueva Esparta state. She is a worker for the Maneiro Mayor’s Office. “This is another of the new patients that we have registered and that are being provided with proper healthcare according to protocols established by the World Health Organization.” President Maduro explained that there are “111 recovered patients, representing 54%. 37 cases are in Comprehensive Diagnosis Centers (CDIs), 25 in hospitals, 20 in private clinics, 2 in hotels, and 9 have died.” He said that “4 cases are in critical condition and are being attended to.” “I ask doctors and specialists to have patience, wisdom and to administer treatments with faith in God to heal patients and help them recover,” he said.
