Misión Barrio Adentro Salud: Venezuelan example of humanism and inclusion of a whole people
With the birth of the Misión Barrio Adentro Salud, a new page of history was written in Venezuela, which undoubtedly transformed the lives of millions of Venezuelans who, like never before, began to have access to healthcare with free and quality in every corner of the country.
The dream of Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, leaders of humanist revolutions, put the accent on the dignity of a people that for years had been abandoned by the governments of the Fourth Republic, who had encouraged disinvestment in the Public Health System to favor a private health platform that was inaccessible for the most humble.
With the arrival of the Eternal Commander Hugo Chávez, health was declared a priority matter for the entire Venezuelan people and with it the strategic alliances that allowed to consolidate with the cooperation of the Republic of Cuba an immense system of direct care in the territory itself, led by Cuban doctors who promoted an unprecedented event where millions of people were included.
Since its launch on April 16, 2003, Barrio Adentro has functioned through the following modalities: Barrio Adentro I, for primary and preventive care in popular modules, offices and clinics; Barrio Adentro II, focused on comprehensive health services through the Comprehensive Diagnosis Centers (CDI), the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Rooms (SRI) and the High Technology Centers (CAT) and Barrio Adentro III, which is specialized in the care of chronic diseases and the financing of surgical interventions and medical treatments.
The integration of the People’s Power and the Bolivarian National Militia is added, along a body of health workers who every day give their all to save lives, promote the prevention of diseases and accidents and expand curative medicine with scientific research.
