Venezuela upholds request for support from international organizations to face COVID-19

“Venezuela has upheld its request for support from international organizations so that the sanctions, persecution, and economic, financial, commercial blockade against our country are lifted to continue facing this pandemic,” stated President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on Sunday, March 12, at the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas. The Venezuelan president thanked Pope Francis for his statements calling for the lifting of sanctions and coercive measures, which represent obstacles to fight COVID-19. “Lift the sanctions against countries in the midst of this pandemic and condone the debts of all southern countries,” he said. The Supreme Pontiff called for the respect of institutions in Venezuela before the diplomatic corps accredited to the Vatican. In the fight against COVID-19, Venezuela has received tons of medical supplies donated by the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China and the World Health Organization, as well as technical assistance from Chinese and Cuban specialists.
