Third International Brigade Che Guevara receives workshop on gender violence

As part of the activities carried out by the members of the third International Che Guevara Brigade, this Sunday, at the headquarters of the Robinsonian National School, the social organization En Tinta Violeta, by the hand of the anthropologist Isabel Gómez, provided the brigadists with a Workshop on gender violence. On February 16, 2019, based on an exchange of experiences and voluntary work between various social movements of the world and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Che Guevara Internationalist Brigade is formed, which from the beginning manifested its solidarity and militant character with the Bolivarian Revolution. Within the framework of this exchange of knowledge of the peoples, this workshop on gender violence takes place, which focuses on sexist violence, violence against women, gender violence and how to prevent it, “the latter is terrible Because it attacks sexual identity, it affects women simply because what they are. In addition, it constitutes an attempt against the integrity, dignity and freedom of women”, said Gomez. She also brought to the discussion concepts introduced by the sociologist Johan Galtung, such as the triangle of violence, which represents the dynamics of the generation of violence in social conflicts. According to this theory, violence is like an iceberg, so that visible violence is only a small part of the conflict, it also exposes that there are three types of violence, such as direct violence, cultural violence and structural violence. Towards the closure of the workshop, the facilitator warned that in many cases of violence against women they tend to appear cyclically, alternating periods of calm with situations that put the victim’s life at risk. Faced with the proximity to the month of women and the international day of women that is commemorated on March 8, Gomez highlighted the progress of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in legislative matters, obtained through the Organic Law for the Women’s rights to a Life Free of Violence (2007), this recognizes 19 different forms of violence, also incorporated feminicide and the induction of suicide as forms of violence.
