Venezuela advocates in Azerbaijan for the defense of international law to achieve a peaceful world

The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, alerted the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Wednesday about the complex crisis which the multilateral system is facing due to the constant violations by a group of Western countries that are driving increasing tendencies to unilateralism, while reiterating the denunciation of unilateral coercive measures against the Venezuelan people and demanded their immediate removal. During his speech at the Preparatory Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs for the XVIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the NAM, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister explained that the imperial strategy against the Bolivarian homeland constitutes a “gigantic and inhuman unconventional war experiment that is accompanied by theft and looting of the assets and income of the Republic”. In this regard, he thanked the permanent and unwavering solidarity of the Movement in defense of respect for sovereignty, political independence and the inalienable right of the Venezuelan people to their self-determination. Faced with the aforementioned systemic phenomenon that, in addition to Venezuela, affects other member states of the Movement, the Venezuelan diplomat clarified that “peace is more than the right of humanity to live without shock due to the irresponsible actions of the centers of power. It is the real right of each of our peoples to decide their future without fear of external destabilization actions that threaten their national sovereignty. We can hardly achieve a more peaceful and prosperous world if we fail to jointly and effectively defend respect for international law”. He said that “multilateralism, along with international law and diplomacy of peace, are the only shields we, the countries of the south, have to protect ourselves from any act of aggression”. He also noted that “we consider it necessary to combine efforts to contribute to the strengthening, among other things, of the south-south cooperation and political consultation, so that the decisions taken and the pronouncements issued by our leaders have a real and positive impact on the world stage, especially in the intergovernmental negotiation processes”. In another order of ideas, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations expressed deep gratitude to the peoples and governments of the NAM for the vote of confidence and the valuable support they extended to Venezuela’s candidacy in the Organization’s Human Rights Council of the United Nations (UN). Finally, he renewed the commitment of the Bolivarian people and Government, presided by Nicolás Maduro Moros, with the efforts in favor of the full revitalization of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in order to maintain its validity and relevance so it plays its historical role in the current international situation.
