From NAM Foreign Minister Arreaza denounces claim to make use of the Rio Pact against Venezuela

Venezuela chaired this Thursday the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), a meeting that is part of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which takes place in New York, United States. The People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations pointed out the pernicious effects of the new ways of waging war on sovereign countries, the aggressor country turns the economy and finance into weapons. Use these new war tactics to destabilize the countries. He also recalled that the US government continually threatens Venezuela with the use of force and reiterates that “all options are on the table”. Likewise, Foreign Minister Arreaza warned that these threats are added to the intention to act on the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (Rio Pact). “They intend to activate an international military treaty of which Venezuela is not part and dating from the Cold War era, thereby seeking to supplant the role of the Security Council in the maintenance of international security and peace in order to promote a foreign military intervention in our country”, he said. In addition, Foreign Minister Arreaza said that “throughout this 2019, a minority group of US-led governments intend to instrumentalize our Organization (UN) as an intervention weapon for internal affairs of our nation through continuous promotion of a coup against the constitutional authorities of Venezuela, through the challenge of our legitimate credentials before the UN”. Therefore this maneuver would be violating multilateralism by flagrantly violating the Charter of the United Nations and the norms of international law. At the same time, the Foreign Minister warned that this maneuver is intended to be rehearsed in the afternoon of tomorrow, when it is expected that the Executive Vice-president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, will use her right to speak in the general debate of the General Assembly.

Aggressions against Cuba

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister took advantage of the space to condemn the new claims of the United States government to “sanction” the commander of the Cuban revolution, Raúl Castro Ruz, for his alleged participation in “serious human rights violations”, these imposed measures also reach his four children, so he pointed out that they are expressions of imperialist pride that is nothing more than an attack against free peoples.
