Bolivarian Government congratulates the new FAO General Director Qu Dongyu

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, hailed the appointment of Qu Dongyu as the new General Director of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO).

Through his Twitter account @NicolasMaduro, the president wrote: “I send a Bolivarian greeting to the most excellent new General Director of the Organization of the #ONU for Food and Agriculture-FAO. Count on the strong support of Venezuela to work jointly for the eradication of hunger on the planet”.

For his part, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, congratulated the new General Director of the Organization, who was elected this Sunday by 108 votes during the 41st session of the FAO Conference, in Rome, Italy.

“The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela congratulates the new General Director of the @FAO, Qu Dongyu. We offer our support in the development of his management and we aspire to further strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization”, Arreaza said.

It should be noted that Qu Dongyu, 55, as well as a biologist, was Vice-minister of Agriculture in his country, and is the first citizen of Chinese nationality to enter this position in which he succeeds the Brazilian José Graziano da Silva.
