Cruz Roja: Alliance with Venezuela is neutral, impartial and independent

This Wednesday, the president of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, said that the cooperation with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is neutral, impartial and independent. “Our approach is to respond to the needs of the population and we do not link our work to politics”, Maurer said at a press conference held in the capital. Maurer said that “Venezuela is in a complex context and there are very big challenges” and the role of the Red Cross is to cooperate with the National Government to implement programs that help solve the main problems of Venezuelan society. In this regard, he reiterated that “the Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that is dedicated to meeting the needs of people, to see how we can reduce the negative effects for the population, through the programs we are developing in this country”. On that point, the President of the organization recalled that “the international framework of humanitarian aid is defined in the Geneva Convention and it must be respected”. Also, Maurer clarified that the Red Cross is not in the “business of defining what you (press) can call the humanitarian world”. He said that his task is to observe the needs of people and work on solving those problems.
