Six thousand Venezuelans have returned from Colombia before the spread of Covid-19

From the San Antonio municipality, located in the Táchira state, six thousand people have entered Venezuelan territory during the month of March, after the adoption of preventive measures against the Coronavirus (Covid-19). The balance was offered by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, who specified that all travelers will undergo diagnostic tests to rule out cases of the infectious disease. «Everyone is going to have rapid tests. We have also received 600 people across the Apure border, more than half have gone home for quarantining and receiving their rapid tests», he explained from the Miraflores Palace in Caracas. He indicated that, despite the support provided by the Iván Duque administration to terrorist maneuvers in Venezuela, both governments are obliged to establish coordination mechanisms for the timely attention of border areas. The Dignitary stressed that the health authorities of both nations have held talks regarding the necessary strategies to contain the advance of COVID-19 and, in turn, preserve the health of the vulnerable population. On the other hand, he indicated that he had a telephone contact with his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernández, with the intention of sharing information on social isolation measures and attention mechanisms activated regarding the Coronavirus. «We both agreed that quarantine is the basis for defeating the expansion of the Coronavirus and each one is applying their screening strategies», he said. The Head of State thanked the technical assistance provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and countries such as Cuba, China and Russia in terms of supplies and specialists to stop the pandemic, whose global contagion figures stands at 784,006 cases.
