Venezuela, Russia strengthen path of powerful military cooperation

Venezuela and Russia strengthened the path of a powerful military cooperation for the defense of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity, said President Nicolás Maduro in the context of the official visit of Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov to Caracas within the framework of the Venezuela-Russia High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting.

“We have reviewed our powerful military cooperation, and we have strengthened the path of a powerful military cooperation between Russia and Venezuela for the defense of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said the Venezuelan head of State.

In this regard, Maduro explained that “General in Chief and Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino and the High Command have precise instructions;” therefore, “we will step up our plans for training and cooperation with a military power like Russia, with which we have deep, historical ties.”

At the meeting with Yuri Borisov, President Maduro highlighted that energy cooperation was also reviewed, and deemed Borisov’s visit as great.

“We held a good, long conversation, and we have reviewed the map of world, hemispheric geopolitics. We have reviewed the Venezuela-Russia bilateral cooperation,” said Maduro.

During their conversation, they also discussed “each of the aspects of the commercial, financial relation, and the health, science, innovation, culture and military defense areas.”

President Maduro did not hesitate to point out that the relations between Russia and Venezuela are becoming more strategic, obtaining more results and greater historical strength.

“The Intergovernmental Commission is turning 20. It has been a long time since those two young leaders, Hugo Chávez and Vladimir Putin, met and started getting closer. They became friends and built this path we are walking today. We have been together in the 21st century, our people and governments, and we have built a cooperation map to continue walking together,” said the Venezuelan president.
