After casting his vote, President Nicolás Maduro highlighted the presence of over 300 international observers from more than 55 countries. “This is a sign of the world’s interest in these elections.”
In his statements to local and international media, the Venezuelan president urged international observers to respect the Venezuelan Constitution and the electoral norms. “They must respect the norms of those who invited them,” he stressed.
In that same vein, he called on the European Union observers to be humble with the rest of observers.
When questioned about the talks with the Venezuelan opposition held in Mexico, President Maduro made it clear that they will “think it over and wait,” referring to the arbitrary detention against diplomat Alex Saab.
