The Vice-minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations, Capaya Rodríguez González, held a meeting with the Japanese ambassador accredited to the national government, Kenji Okada, on June 18, 2021, during which, topics of interest in relation to the Venezuela-Japan bilateral cooperation were addressed, in addition to highlighting the pending logistical issues considering the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Both representatives highlighted the importance of reinvigorating the normalization of the historical relations of friendship and cooperation with Venezuela, which reach more than 80 years, considering as a possible starting point the next holding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games that will be held from the next July in the Japanese capital.
Likewise, the meeting was attended by Jesús Brito, Methodological Technical Director of the National Sports Institute (IND) and the Olympic Route, and Freddy Velasco, General Director of Interinstitutional Relations of the (IND) who requested the significant support and joint collaboration between the Venezuelan sports institutions and the organizing Olympic Committee, through the channeling of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, for the effective participation of the sports delegation of 38 classified athletes so far, which will contribute to the development of bilateral relations.
Finally, Vice-minister Rodríguez stressed that there is the political will to promote comprehensive work between both nations, by virtue of achieving a prompt reactivation of the Venezuela-Japan cooperation ties.
