The Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda Park, east of Caracas, served as stage this Tuesday for the commemoration in Venezuela of the 80 years of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, fought by the allied Russian Federation against the army of Nazi Germany. The activity was organized by the Bolivarian Government, through the People’s Power Ministry for Ecosocialism, and the Russian Embassy.
“This act is very important for the Russian Federation. We are very grateful to be here at this very special time. Today June 22, we commemorate the day of remembrance of the fallen”, said the Russian ambassador accredited in Caracas, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov.
The Minister for Ecosocialism, Josué Lorca, reiterated the support of the Venezuelan Executive to Russia and stressed the importance of remembering these types of events to prevent them from happening again.
In the lagoon of the park, the assistants placed small paper boats with candles inside in homage to those who fell during the attack of the Nazis in 1941. About 27 million Soviets lost their lives during the war.
The Belarusian ambassador to Venezuela, Andrei Molchan, was a special guest at the activity, which also shows the twinning that governs Russian-Venezuelan relations.
