Foreign Minister Arreaza pays tribute to Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow

As part of an official visit paid by a Venezuelan delegation to the Russian Federation, Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.

“We had the honor of paying tribute to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a symbol of recognition to all those Russian warriors who gave their lives in combat after the war conflicts of the last century,” wrote Minister Arreaza on his Twitter account.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated to the Soviet soldiers killed during the Great Patriotic War. The tomb is located in the Alexander Garden in Moscow. It was inaugurated in 1996 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Battle of Moscow.

On the occasion of Foreign Minister Arreaza’s visit, Foreign Vice-ministers Yván Gill and Carlos Ron held a bilateral meeting with a Russian representation headed by Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergei Riabkov, to review cooperation in the political, economic, scientific and technological areas.

On May 24, 1996, Venezuela and Russia endorsed the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cultural, Scientific Cooperation. Since then, the two countries have forged a cooperation strategic alliance through the Venezuela-Russia High-Level Intergovernmental Commission on the basis of respect, solidarity and friendship.
