Vice-minister Capaya Rodríguez holds a working meeting with Minister Mervin Maldonado

Last Monday, the Vice-minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Capaya Rodríguez González, held a meeting in videoconference format with the People’s Power Minister for Youth and Sports, Mervin Maldonado, together with the ambassador accredited to the government of Japan, Seiko Ishikawa, who were accompanied by officials from both State institutions.

This meeting was held in order to address issues of interest in relation to the coordination of logistical and organizational aspects for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Route.

During the aforementioned activity, Minister Maldonado reviewed pending issues for the participation of the Venezuelan sports delegation in the great world event to be held in the city of Tokyo, Japan, as the host country, which is expected to begin on July 23.

The head of the Sports portfolio also highlighted that Venezuela has 28 athletes classified for the Olympic tournament in the disciplines of karate, fencing, cycling, judo, boxing, ornamental jumping, athletics, among others. Likewise, this figure is expected to increase depending on new classifications in other sports disciplines that are still pending.

For her part, Vice-minister Rodríguez pointed out that the Tokyo Olympic Games constitute the main challenge for Venezuelan sport in 2021, as it is considered the most important multidisciplinary sports event on the planet.

After that, she highlighted the importance of the participation of Venezuelan athletes, since this edition number 125 has as its main goal the act of bringing together more than 200 delegations from all over the world that during these Olympic Games will promote sport, cultural union, respect, healthy competition and peace among nations, even more in these difficult months that humanity has gone through due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vice-minister Capaya also stated that the Office which she presides will carry out all the coordination and support required by the Ministry of Sports and other entities to guarantee the successful participation of Venezuelan athletes, the different technical, medical and support teams in these Olympics.

In this sense, both authorities emphasized that it is a priority to execute the path that President Nicolás Maduro has marked and instructed, regarding the continuous support to the Golden Generation, which represents the country with dignity in any sport modality.
