Economy Vice-president El Aissami proposes energy transition at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

Economy Vice-president and Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami proposed on Thursday at the 24th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, in Russia, the need of placing humanity in the center of an energy transition for the development of the collective wellbeing and the quality of life of men, women and families.

The opening of the Forum, to be held from June 2-5, was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak; the Minister of Energy of Qatar, Saad Al-Sherida Kaabi; and the Secretary General of the World Energy Council (WEC), Angela Wilkinson.

The Forum gathers over 2,000 foreign participants, including Qatar, the United States and representatives of governments from Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, China and other countries.

The Forum’s first day featured the conference «Energy Transformation Sectors, » specifically environmental security of traditional energy systems, use of new technologies and technological breakthroughs  and their incidence in the energy sector.

Economy Vice-president Tareck El Aissami, sent regards to the participants and described the conference as a great debate on energy transition that draws the attention of the peoples of the world.

In his statement, El Aissami highlighted that «energy transition must be accompanied by a wide world debate. The source of the financing mostly invested in the technological development of fossil energies must be adjusted, while the source of financing for developing clean energy alternatives is still in discussion. »

El Aissami stressed the need of changing this position. «We think that the sum of the diversity of visions must be consolidated in a comprehensive policy to cause a collective impact of wellbeing, seeing humanity as a common goal, and secondly, transform this into a flag of the human cause. »

El Aissami said this debate «has to go beyond the agendas of governments and corporations, and place men, women and families in the center of an energy transition for energy security within the framework of the development of the collective wellbeing and the quality of life of humanity. »

«Today, hundreds of families do not have access to traditional energy sources. In 2070, in future agendas, we must expand the horizon so that humanity can access safe energy sources, » he said.

In this regard, he said there is a big question to answer because the development of fossil sources does not only have to do with energy sources, but also with raw materials. «This debate on raw materials for the rest of the industrial development chains is still to be defined without the big challenges of this time and future times. »

Finally, El Aissami said he is convinced that with a concerted policy, an open debate and the participation of humanity, we will find ways to find a solution and reduce the impact on planet Earth.

In 2019, the Russian Federation and Venezuela endorsed cooperation agreements in the energy, pharmaceutical, commercial and technical.scientific areas at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
