During the farewell ceremony of the Apostolic Nuncio of the Vatican accredited to Venezuela, Monsignor Aldo Giordano, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, thanked his accompaniment in the process of dialogue with representatives of the Venezuelan opposition since 2014 and for the beatification of the Saint of the people, Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, on April 30.
“Everyone found in the Apostolic Nuncio someone who knows how to listen, who has been a factor of balance, seriousness and professionalism, respect for sovereignty”, said the Head of State from the Miraflores Palace, with the presence of Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza and the Diplomatic Corps accredited in the nation.
The president also expressed appreciation to Monsignor Giordano for his work in strengthening relations with the Catholic Church, with the Vatican State.
“We recognize in you a man of his word, of respect, a great representative of Pope Francis”, he stressed.
President Maduro pointed out that the happiness of the Apostolic Nuncio who presided over the ceremony and officiated the mass during the beatification of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, whose cause was more than 70 years waiting in the Vatican archives, will remain for history.
“I tried to serve peace, reconciliation, dialogue. Our diplomacy is to serve peace”, affirmed the Apostolic Nuncio, Aldo Giordano, in his farewell words after 7 years and 4 months at the Head of the diplomatic representation of the Holy See in Venezuela.
He expressed feeling honored and very moved: “I have in my heart the hopes, the struggles, the desires, the tears of this dear people”. He stated the fact hat his farewell coincided with the beatification of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández was an unforgettable surprise that will remain in his heart, “it was written in the sky, in the stars”.
At the end of the event, the Head of State wished Monsignor Aldo Giordano luck in his next responsibility as Apostolic Nuncio to the European Union and special consultant to the Vatican on Venezuelan affairs.
