The People’s Power Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, participated in the telematic meeting of Health Ministers of the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in the context of the 74th World Health Assembly, held on May 27.
From this space, he advocated for multilateralism, solidarity, inclusion and cooperation without conditions to face the new waves of contagion of COVID-19, registered in the world; and at the same time to promote the release of patents for vaccines in favor of the health and life of human beings.
Minister Alvarado recalled that the nation faces the pandemic and the criminal blockade of the United States Government, with innovative methods studied by the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and the scientific community, which has allowed “a balance between the control measures and the social and economic reactivation as part of the strategy adopted by the Bolivarian Government”.
In this sense, he thanked the solidarity and joint work of the World Health Organization, its general director Dr. Tedros Adhanom; the Pan American Health Organization, the United Nations System and countries such as Cuba, Russia, China, Iran and Turkey, during this process to reduce the effects of the blockade and the virus.
Before ending his participation, he urged to support the United Nations regarding the cessation of conflicts, the adoption of truces and not politicizing the issue of COVID-19, as the great powers do to “advance their global geopolitical interests to the detriment of the needs of the countries and peoples of the South”.
This call includes the cessation of unilateral and illegal coercive measures that are applied against Venezuela and other nations of the world.
