Venezuela condemns new military phase in Israel’s long colonial war against Palestine

Amid the tensions, and the new violent escalation by Israel against the Palestinian people, the international community met this Thursday at the United Nations (UN) to denounce the new colonial onslaught by the occupying power against Palestine.

The ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the UN, Samuel Moncada, strongly condemned Israel’s indiscriminate bombings against the civilian population in the Palestinian territories as part of an aggression “that endangers regional peace”.

He assured that currently “we are in the presence of a new military phase in the long colonial war against the Palestinian people, on which a regime of ethnic domination is imposed that constitutes a true apartheid in the XXI century”.

In this regard, he questioned the role of Israel, which continues to systematically perpetrate war crimes, crimes against humanity, racism and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.

«Israel constantly violates international law in the occupied Palestinian territories and ignores its obligations with the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly and the United Nations Security Council, expanding its colonial occupation and apartheid with the demolition of houses, expropriation of land and buildings, proliferation of illegal settlements, extrajudicial executions, massive arrests and ethnic cleansing”, the Permanent Representative of Venezuela declared.

He alerted the international community of the serious crisis that the Palestinian people are going through, as more than two million civilians are cut off from the rest of the world, shortages of fuel, water, electricity, coupled with the bombings that destroy the few health services in the middle of the biggest pandemic in a hundred years. “This is a humanitarian catastrophe caused with cold calculation by the government of Israel”.

Likewise, Ambassador Moncada questioned the position of the Security Council in the face of this “barbarism” due to the obstruction of a single country (the United States), which has prevented a binding resolution from being agreed, demanding the immediate cessation of hostilities and a ceasefire. At the same time, he sentenced the double moral of the US government by wanting to appear as a defender of humanitarian and human rights cause when it punishes the oppressed by protecting the oppressor.

He called for international solidarity and joining forces in defense of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, a just cause for which they have fought for more than 70 years, since the Al-Nakba catastrophe.

Illegitimate use of force

During the month of Ramadan, a sacred date of prayer and reflection, respected by Muslims around the world, Israeli forces raided the Al-Haram Al-Sharif and Al-Aqsa mosques, throwing gases and rubber bullets at the believers, disrespecting all agreements attached to international law as well as the status quo.

Due to this fact, a high escalation of bombings and military attacks was generated, registering, in recent days, more than 140 fatalities, including 39 children and 22 women; more than 1,000 injured, as well as the destruction of hundreds of homes. Vital public and private infrastructure has been destroyed, and rightful inhabitants of the Sheikh Jarrah community in East Jerusalem have been forcibly evicted. The aforementioned actions have been accompanied by systematic assaults by organized fanatic groups throughout Israel, perpetrating hate crimes and racism in dozens of towns and cities against innocent Palestinian residents.
