Venezuela evaluates mechanisms with the WHO and PAHO for the acquisition of vaccines against COVID-19

In order to advance the vaccination process of the Venezuelan people and protect their health, the Executive Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, in the company of the People’s Power Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, and the Minister for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, held this Saturday a videoconference with the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, and the director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa Etienne.

During the meeting, the authorities addressed the issue of the supply of vaccines for Venezuela within the framework of the Covax mechanism; In addition, they reviewed in detail all its aspects, the available antidotes and the times to address.

Vice-president Rodríguez stressed that Venezuela is in permanent contact with the Director of PAHO, in order to attend to the immunization of the Venezuelan people against the pandemic.

“We want to thank the Director of the WHO, because we know that this humble man at the head of this Organization is fighting a great battle for all humanity, for the peoples of the world”, she said.

She stated that from the first moment this virus appeared, the WHO immediately put itself into battle, establishing cooperation mechanisms, solidarity with all countries to combat one of the worst pandemics that human history has known.

For his part, the Director of the WHO indicated through his official Twitter account that WHO, PAHO and COVAX are committed to guaranteeing and accelerating the flow of vaccines to Venezuela and all countries, so that priority groups can be vaccinated as soon as possible.

Likewise, the Bolivarian Government reported on the progress of the clinical trials of Carvativir, a powerful antiviral made in Venezuela.

Minister Jiménez gave details to the WHO authorities about the progress, not only with Carvativir but also 40 more projects on drugs that can help humanity and that Venezuela can offer the peoples of the world as a “Public good”.
