ALBA-TCP Secretary rejects Almagro’s “concern” after the arrest of Bolivian coup leaders

The Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, rejected on Monday the statement of the Secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, regarding to the arrest of the architects of the coup against the indigenous leader Evo Morales in the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

“Almagro does not have the moral authority to pronounce on what is happening in Bolivia. The peoples of our America know that he is jointly responsible for the coup, an accessory to the massacres and that he was a supporter of the de facto government in Bolivia”, said Secretary Llorenti through his account on the social network Twitter, in response to the “Concerns” of the Secretary of the OAS for the capture of the coup plotters.

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office issued the formal indictment against former de facto president Jeanine Áñez and former ministers Álvaro Coímbra and Rodrigo Guzmán, for the crimes of terrorism, conspiracy and sedition in the case of the coup against Morales in 2019.

With respect to Áñez, the Public Ministry requested preventive detention, for at least the six months which the investigation lasts, in the Obrajes women’s prison in La Paz, while for the former ministers detention was requested to take place in the San Pedro prison.

After the elections held in the Plurinational State in 2019, where the indigenous leader Evo Morales won the victory, the OAS secretary published a report without arguments warning of alleged irregularities in the vote counting in the electoral process, leading to a coup d’etat in the Andean country, later demonstrating the lies and manipulation that were manifested in the document.
