Venezuela, Cuba set up 21st Intergovernmental Joint Commission

Cuba’s Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz and Venezuela’s Executive Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez Gómez set up on Tuesday the 21st Intergovernmental Joint Commission to move forward with and strengthen agreements, following the 20th anniversary of the Cuba-Venezuela Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement.

The meeting, held in the Cubanacan Hall, Havana, was attended by a Venezuelan delegation that included Science Minister Gabriela Jiménez, Agriculture Minister Wilmar Castro Soteldo, Ambassador to Cuba Adán Chávez, and PDVSA’s President Asdrubal Chávez.

The Cuban delegation included Health Minister José Portal, Foreign Trade Minister Rodrigo Malmierca, Energy and Mines Minister Liván Arronte, Science and Tehcnology Minister, Elba Pérez, and Agriculture Minister Gustavo Rodríguez, among other authorities.

“We have the commitment to move forward with an agreement that celebrated its 20th anniversary on October 30, 2020, in the midst of the worst hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the escalation of the criminal blockade against Cuba and Venezuela,” said Vice-president Rodríguez in her statement.

Likewise, she highlighted that despite the imperial aggressions, the two countries “have proven nothing will stop them because we have the firm commitment to move forward with cooperation amid difficulties.”

“This cooperation can be seen in Venezuela’s social missions. Despite the blockade, we will move forward with the legacy of Martí and Commanders Chávez and Fidel,” stressed Rodríguez.

The Commission will assess and strengthen projects for the benefit of the two countries, which have been subjected to the vicious attacks of the imperial blockade.

Venezuela and Cuba will continue developing and promoting cooperation projects in health, education, energy, science and technology, culture, defense, sports and other areas, to boost their economies and improve the wellbeing of their peoples under the leadership pf Presidents Nicolás Maduro and Miguel Díaz-Canel.
