Venezuela, PAHO move forward with creation of vaccine fund

In alliance with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), Venezuela is proposing a “practical, effective agreement” to create a $300 million fund to procure vaccines for the Venezuelan population, announced President Nicolás Maduro.

The Venezuelan president explained his government is working with the UN System in areas such as food, education, culture, heritage and the pursuit of justice for Venezuelans.

“We are in permanent communication with the UN Secretary General António Guterres to discuss peace and stability in the country and the region,” stressed President Maduro in a farewell ceremony with the outgoing UN Resident Coordinator in Venezuela, Peter Grohmann.

At the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas, the Venezuelan president stressed the good diplomatic relations between Venezuela and the UN System have been marked by “really novel” communication and coordination mechanisms.

“Although relations with the UN offices may be tense due to the world campaign against Venezuela, the government favors the path of words, truth and dialogue,” said President Maduro.

“We are men and women of word, understanding, dialogue, and we are always seeking innovative solutions,” he added.
