President Nicolás Maduro: ‘Solidarity with Amazonas is our duty’

“Brazil should know that our solidarity with Amazonas is our duty. We are brothers, and good neighborhood, cooperation, fraternal encounters and a border of peace must exist,” said President Nicolás Maduro about the Brazil-Venezuela border.

The Venezuela president said the 136 liters of oxygen, the equivalent to 14,000 cylinders, were sent as humanitarian aid to Manaus, Brazil, as a response to the proposals made by the workers of the Alfredo Maneiro steelmaker (SIDOR), located in Bolívar state.

“That oxygen was sent by Bolívar state’s working class to the people of Amazonas,” stressed Maduro, who explained they are working to consolidate an agreement to send oxygen on a permanent basis to cope with the COVID-19 sanitary emergency of Brazil’s Amazonas state.

“It is a gesture of love,” said President Maduro in an interview with Brazilian journalist Breno Altman on Monday.

President Maduro described the reaction of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro as “meanness and hatred.”

“The only thing he had to say was Obrigado! (…) When saving lives, we must put aside our ideological struggles and focused on human beings,” said President Maduro.
