Minister Alvarado and Vice Prime Minister of Cuba review progress of bilateral projects in the health area

The People’s Power Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado, in the company of his management team, held a working meeting on Friday with the Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba and co-chair of the Intergovernmental Commission of the Cuba-Venezuela Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement Ricardo Cabrisas, who heads a delegation from the sister Caribbean island that arrived in Caracas on Thursday to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the meeting, held at the Casa Amarilla Antonio José de Sucre, both delegations reviewed the progress of the ongoing projects and explored proposals for new alliances in health matters, within the framework of the Cuba-Venezuela Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement.

The health area has had special priority in the cooperation established by the Governments of Venezuela and Cuba, since the signing of the agreement. The projects in this area include both actions for the cure, treatment and prevention of diseases, carried out through the Barrio Adentro Mission, as well as the training of undergraduate and postgraduate professionals, promoted by the Sandino Commitment, sealed in Cuba in 2005, which led to the creation in Venezuela of the Latin American School of Medicine “Dr. Salvador Allende” (Elam), in 2007, which emulates the internationalist model of its Cuban counterpart, and the University of Health Sciences “Hugo Chávez Frías”, in 2014, of which Minister Alvarado is also its rector.

Accompanying Vice Prime Minister Cabrisas during his official visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment; Nicolás Liván Arronte, Minister of Mines and Energy; Martha Wilson González, Minister-President of the Central Bank of Cuba and Roberto López, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, were present.
