Venezuela strengthens ties with Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

The Vice-minister for Africa of Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry, Yuri Pimentel, held a meeting on Monday with the Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Salerm Daha, to discuss issues related to the defense of the Sahrawi cause.

The meeting was also attended by Carlos Ron, vice-minister for North America and president of the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples.

“The Sahrawi cause has been a symbol the Bolivarian Revolution has always defended. Commander Chávez strongly defended it, and now President Maduro. We reviewed some solidarity activities the two countries will undertake this year,” stressed Vice-minister Pimentel.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recognized the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic as an independent State on August 3, 1980, and on December 8, 1982, the two countries established diplomatic relations. Venezuela has expressed solidarity with the Sahrawi people in different international spaces in the last three decades.
